Birthdays for children are a big deal! You probably want to make sure your kid always has memorable birthdays — but planning parties can be tricky. Sometimes, your kid might know what they want to do for their party, but other times… you might get a shrug and an “I don’t know.”
In such a case, planning falls on your shoulders; you have to handle everything from choosing a location, decorating your home, preparing meals, arranging games, and setting everything up. It is usually a stressful adventure from the beginning till the end.
To make things a little easier for you, we’ve written a guide that will show you four ways to give your kid a memorable birthday.
When we were younger, we had cartoon shows we loved, and in those shows, we had that one character that always brought us joy. The same phenomenon goes with your kids — they always have their favorite characters. They're usually loud about their favorites, so you should already know. But if you don't, you can always ask them. The favorite character should be the main determinant in the party's theme; this includes the decorations, games, and maybe even the cake’s frosting.
Try to get a feel for if your kid wants a big bash or a smaller celebration. Do they just have a few close friends at school? Or are they a social butterfly? Are there any kids in the neighborhood that your kid would like to see? Keep all these questions in mind, but remember: rather than inviting as many people as possible, invite those who your child is comfortable spending time with.
If the weather permits it, you can take the festivities outside! An outdoor party gives them plenty of space to play — or, if it’s pretty cold outside, you can set up outdoors and indoor stations. Outside for a snowball fight, then inside for hot chocolate and a movie!
